W. Track Opens Outdoor Season at Palmetto Classic

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The Davidson women's track & field team put up a number of solid performances in its outdoor debut at the Palmetto Classic, hosted by the College of Charleston and the Citadel on Friday.
Gracie Gordon started the day off with a 27.14 in the 200-meter dash, taking 25th overall. Teammate Ashlyn Gruber placed 14th in the 400-meter dash, running a 1:01.92 in her outdoor debut.
The Wildcats had a strong showing in the 800-meter dash, with Olivia Menden, Grace Watt and Sarah Paddon all claiming top ten finishes. Menden led the way in second with a 2:18.28, marking the third-best time in program history. Watt was close behind in third place, crossing the line in 2:21.46 to join Menden on the all-time top-10 list. Paddon finished eight in the event, clocking in at 2:24.87.
Presley Parkes took fourth in the mile, running a 5:14.79 for the second-fastest performance in program history. Maggie Rickard joined her in the event, finishing 19th with a 5:56.31.
Erin Osment clocked in at 10:49.01 in the 3,000-meter run, coming in under the meet record though the mark would go to a Winthrop runner. Ali Cobb was fourth in 11:09.00, followed by Mary Dombrowski in sixth at 11:29.90. Sophia Smith also competed, running a 12:22.82 for tenth.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Kate Kostecky took seventh with a time of 1:10.69. Her time is ninth on the program's all-time top-10 list.
In the field events, Molly Marshall took second in the pole vault, recording a height of 2.75 meters. Gordon placed 12th in the long jump with a mark of 4.70m.
The Wildcats will be back in action on March 15 when they head across town to the Charlotte 49ers Classic.
