Men’s Golf Leads After Day One of Davidson College Invitational

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Led by Samuel Echikson's one-over 73, the Davidson men's golf team posted an opening round 297 as the Wildcats sit in first place after day one of the 2013 Davidson College Invitational Monday afternoon at River Run Country Club.
Davidson will enter the final round one ahead of Marshall (298) and three clear of Gardner-Webb (300). James Madison is alone in fourth following a 306, while Radford and Campbell University are tied for fifth, 10 strokes off the pace.
Marshall's Nathan Kerns holds the top spot on the individual leaderboard after firing the day's only sup-par round, a one-under 71.
Steve Jones (Gardner-Webb), Jared Carver (Campbell) and Cory Taylor (Wofford) are currently tied for second at even par.
Freshman David Sargent turned in a spring-low two-over 74 for the Wildcats and is one back of his teammate in a tie for seventh.
Also competing for the Wildcats are Richard Fountain (75/T-11th), Todd Eckstein (75/T-11th), John Skeadas III (76/T-19th) and individual participants Ben Murray (74/T-7th), Alex Nianouris (76/T-19th) and Ralph Blasey (81/T-42nd).
The final round will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
