DAVIDSON, N.C. — Playing its second ranked opponent this year, Davidson was unable to put a point on the board as the No 74 Samford Bulldogs took a 7-0 decision over the 'Cats Friday afternoon in Southern Conference men's tennis action at the Covington Tennis Courts.

Davidson, who opened the year against No. 60 Clemson, saw its two-match win streak come to an end. The Wildcats fell to 10-7 overall and 4-4 in SoCon action. The Bulldogs moved to 8-7 overall and 3-1 in league play.

The No. 1 team of Kevin Moore and Chris Mark tallied their team-best eighth doubles win of the year with a 9-7 victory, but the 'Cats fell 8-3 and 8-6 at the other two spots to give Samford the first team point.

The Bulldogs then went on to take all six singles positions for the 7-0 win, but Davidson did not go down without a fight. At No. 1 singles, Joe Schafer pushed his match to a third set super tie-breaker, splitting his first two sets, 6-4 and 6-7. Then in the tie-breaker, he fell just short, 10-8.

Robert Lightbourn also forced a third-set super tie-breaker after winning his first set, 6-2, but then dropping the next one 7-6. The junior battled it out with Alex Sajonz at No. 4, before dropping a 14-12 decision.

Connor Evins and Mark both saw their two-match win streaks halted. Evins (8-6 on the season) fell 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 singles, while Mark fell to 6-8 with a 6-3, 6-3 loss to Fares Kilani at No. 3.

The Wildcats are off until finishing out their home slate of matches for 2013 by hosting UNCG at 1 p.m. on April 7.
