The Opening Draw Control
Davidson (2-5, 0-0 Big South) continues its three-game homestand, seeking to snap a two-game skid and pick up its first conference win in its conference-opener by hosting Longwood (6-2, 2-0 Big South) Saturday.
The Lancers have won their first two Big South games, defeating first-year program's Winthrop (14-11) and Campbell (24-12).
The All-Time Series/Last Meeting
The series is tied at 7-apiece after the Wildcats took two wins against the Lancers last year.
After scoring an 18-14 home win during the regular season, Davidson opened the NLC Tournament with a convincing 19-9 triumph in the quarterfinals. Ann Fucigna tallied four goals and three assists to set the Davidson single-season points record and lead the Wildcats to the win.
Last Time Out...
... Davidson — Emily Cooke and Ann Fucigna combined for five goals and seven points in the second half, and Davidson nearly came back from a 9-3 deficit, before No. 13 Dartmouth held off the Wildcats' upset bid, 13-12, Tuesday evening at Richardson Stadium.
The 'Cats (2-5) outscored the Big Green 9-4 in the second period, but ran out of time in trying to close out the comeback. Fucigna's last goal of the half for Davidson came right before the final horn to make it a one-goal score.
Cooke finished with six points on three goals and three assists, getting all three goals and two of the assists in the second half. Fucigna was right behind her with four points on three goals and an assist.
Davidson finishing with 15 second-half shots to give it 22 for the game. The Wildcats also pulled in 10 of its game-high 14 draw controls in the second half, helping fuel their near comeback. Emma Sissman had a team-best five of them, pushing her total to 28 on the season.
... Longwood — The Longwood women's lacrosse team defeated in-state opponent Old Dominion, 17-11, Wednesday afternoon. The Lancers were led by junior Lauren Prasnicki, who recorded a personal-best and program-best eight assists en route to a career-high 11 total points in the victory.
Longwood attacked quickly, scoring three goals in the first seven minutes of the game. Prasnicki created all three goals. The Monarch's offense went to work in the waning minutes of the half, scoring the last two goals of the period, but Longwood still took a 9-4 edge into the break.
Old Dominion tallied the first goal of the second half to pull within four, but the Lancers answered with a four-goal streak, thanks to a pair of scores from Sarah Arndt and one apiece from Katie McHugh and Sarah Butler, to pull ahead, 13-5, with less 20 minutes to play.
Sophomore Sarah Arndt had three goals, while senior Jamie Brentlinger and freshman Sarah Butler each tallied two goals and one assist for three points.
