Lantz, Pagonis Earn SoCon Honors After Running Fastest Times In Nation

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Davidson junior Andrew Lantz was named the Southern Conference Track Athlete of the Week Wednesday and senior Demetrios Pagonis was named the SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week Thursday after both ran the fastest times in the country in their respective events during the past week.
Lantz, in only his second race since last August 31st, won the 800-meter run at the UNC Charlotte 49er Classic in a personal best, school record, conference and nation leading time of 1:50.25 Saturday. It was a personal best by six tenths of a second.
Pagonis, a top chemistry student from Westminster, Md. with a 3.89 grade point average, won the 5000-meter run at the 49er Classic Friday in a personal best, school record, conference and nation leading time of 14:09.96 seconds.
Pagonis bested the record set just last season by Ryan Hopkins '12 at the Raleigh Relays. Pagonis' previous personal best was 14:17.27, which he accomplished in the same race.
Davidson will next compete at the High Point VertKlasse Meeting Saturday.
