Davidson Wins Third Straight With 4-2 Decision vs. Gardner-Webb

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson men's tennis team make it three straight in the win column when they scored a 4-2 home win vs. Gardner-Webb Tuesday evening in a non-conference match in the Knobloch Tennis Center.
The Wildcats (3-1) closed out their four-match homestand to start the year with three wins in a row vs. Wingate, Presbyterian and Gardner-Webb, which fell to 0-3 on the season.
Chris Mark and Kevin Moore sealed up the doubles point for Davidson to start the match with an 8-5 triumph at No. 1 after Robert Lightbourn and Nicky Kunz rolled to an 8-2 victory at No. 3. Mark and Moore are 3-1 on the young season at the No. 1 spot.
The 'Cats then netted three of the six singles matches led by Mark. The senior picked up a 6-1, 6-4 decision at No. 4 to push his singles mark to 2-1, with both triumphs coming at No. 4.
Fellow classmate Joe Schafer ran his singles mark to 3-1 after a straight set, 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2, while Connor Evins sealed up the team win and earned his first win of the 2013 campaign with a three-set affair, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.
The Wildcats avenged a 5-2 defeat to the Runnin' Bulldogs a year ago on their home court.
Davidson takes to the road this weekend for the first time with a doubleheader vs. Temple and Saint Joseph in Philadelphia, Pa., Feb. 9. Match times are set for 1 and 7 p.m.
