Men's Cross Country Earns 15th Consecutive All-Academic Team Honor

NEW ORLEANS – The Davidson men's cross country team was designated as an USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for the 15th consecutive year, as announced Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
With a team grade point average of 3.34, Davidson was one of 145 teams to earn the honor. To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship.
A total of 30 conferences were represented on the list. The Big East Conference had the most squads make it with nine. The Big Ten followed with eight, and the Southern Conference had seven.
Memphis reported the highest cumulative team GPA in the country through the fall 2012 semester at 3.65. Chattanooga followed at 3.64.
Including Chattanooga and Davidson, the Southern Conference had seven members make the list. Following Davidson was Western Carolina (3.275), UNCG (3.27), Furman (3.21), Appalachian State (3.172) and Elon (3.11).
Seven of the top ten finishing teams at the 2012 NCAA Cross Country Championships earned All-Academic status. Of the 31 teams that participated in the national meet, 23 of those earned All-Academic status.
The Cowboys of Oklahoma State University are the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Men's Scholar Team of the Year for the 2012 cross country season. Oklahoma State won the NCAA Cross Country Championship title this fall – its third in four years.
Scholar Teams of the year are determined from among those who earned All-Academic status and placed highest as a team at the most recent NCAA Championships.
