Atabek, Relays Set New Marks at SoCon Championships

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Davidson women's track and field team set a new school record in the 4x400-meter relay Sunday, as the Wildcats placed 11th at the 2013 Southern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, held at the JDL Fast Track Saturday afternoon.
Sarah Paddon, Olivia Menden, Grace Watt and Ashlyn Gruber completed the 4x400 in 4:05.16 to place 10th. Their converted time of 4:01.28 set a new Davidson program record in the event, topping the old mark by more than three seconds.
Natalie Atabek posted the top finish of the day for the Wildcats, placing ninth in the 5000-meter run in 17:45.67. Atabek's time was a personal best as well as a new school record.
Western Carolina won the team title with 149 points, edging Appalachian State, which placed second with 143.50 points.
On the first day, Atabek finished sixth overall in the 3,000m run to score points for Davidson. Her time of 10:05.93 was nearly eight seconds faster than her previous career best and marks the third fastest time in program history in the event. Teammate Erin Osment also competed in the event, crossing the line in 10:40 for 14th place while Ali Cobb placed 18th by clocking in at 10:59.75.
Paddon, Gruber, Watt and and Menden combined for a fifth place finish in the distance medley relay, also picking up points for the Wildcats. The four teamed to run a 12:15.69, shattering the Davidson program record.
Gracie Gordon matched her personal best in the preliminaries of the 60m dash, running an 8.16 which remains the third-fastest time in program history. Kate Kostecky also saw preliminary action, running a 1:05.38 in the sixth heat of the 400m.
Gordon also competed in the long jump, recording a jump of 4.79m
