W. Track Heads to SoCon Championships

DAVIDSON, N.C. – For the third time this season, the Davidson women's track team will head to the JDL Fast Track as they conclude the indoor season at the 2012-13 SoCon Indoor Championships in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Saturday and Sunday.
ABOUT THE MEET
The championships will begin Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with the women's pentathlon events, followed by the men's heptathlon events at 10:15 a.m. The awards ceremony is scheduled for Sunday at 4:40 p.m. The event is free to the public. Live results, daily recaps, daily photos and video highlights can be found on the Southern Conference website.
LAST SEASON
The Wildcats took 12th place overall at the 2012 championship meet, which was won by Appalachian State. Presley Parkes set a program record in the mile and joined teammates Ali Cobb and Erin Osment on the all-freshman team. Cobb earned the honor for her performance in the mile, while Osment garnered attention for her place in the 5,000-meter run.
GORDON SETS PROGRAM RECORDS
Gracie Gordon set a new Davidson record in the long jump with her performance at Hilton Garden Invitational. Gordon recorded a distance of 5.83 meters (19-1.5) for a second place finish. Lara Burkholder had set the previous record of 17-7.74 in 1995. Gordon also set a program record in the 300m dash with a 45.00.
'CATS MAKING HISTORY
A number of Wildcat track & field athletes have entered the program's all-time top-10 performers list this season. In addition to the long jump and 300m, Gracie Gordon posted an 8.16 in the 60m to rank third overall and ranks seventh in the 200m with a time of 27.45. Freshman Kate Kostecky took over the 10th spot in the 400m with a time of 1:02.85 while fellow rookie Ashlyn Gruber now ranks fourth in the 1,000m with a mark of 3:15.58. Ashley Paige moved into fourth in the 500m with a time of 1:30.05, while a quartet of Wildcats (Natalie Atabek, Sarah Paddon, Olivia Menden and Brigid Behrens) rank in the top 10 of the mile. Atabak, Manya Swick and Erin Osment all rank in the 3,000m event as well.

Gracie Gordon leads the SoCon with a distance of 5.83 meters (19'1.5) in the long jump… Ranking in the top 10 of the 3,000m is Natalie Atabek, whose time of 10:08.25 at the Hilton Garden Invite ranks 10th in the league… Atabek also ranks 11th in the 5,000m after posting a 17:55.50 at the Niswonger Invite… Manya Swick (18th – 18:14.64) and Erin Osment (20th – 18:21.98) also rank inside the top 20 in the 5,000m… Olivia Menden currently ranks 19th overall in the 800m run with her time of 2:19.70 at the Tiger Paw Invite… Molly Marshall is currently 16th in the SoCon with a 10-0 in the pole vault while Lexie Winograd is 19th with a height of 7'6.5.
