SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The Southern Conference announced the 2013 Fall All-Academic team, with 24 Wildcats earning honors as announced by the league office recently.
With one fewer school in the league than last season, the 11 SoCon schools combined for 25 more honorees than last fall, with 329 student-athletes earning the distinction. That total is the second-most in league history, trailing only the 2010 fall season, which saw 345 student-athletes take the honor. Each of this year's 11 institutions had at least 22 honorees, representing the sports of football, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer and volleyball.
Jamie Durling for Davidson was one of a league-record 20 student-athletes who have maintained a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average. The previous record for 4.0 GPAs, 16, was set by the 2011 fall squad.
To be eligible for the academic all-conference team, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA entering the fall season and were required to compete in at least one-half of their teams' competitions during the recently concluded fall campaign.
The league's 11 women's soccer programs provided the most academic all-conference members with 93, followed by football with 62 and women's cross country with 55.
Leading the way for Davidson was the women's soccer with seven student-athletes followed by the women's cross country team with six.
