Davidson to Host The Citadel, Ga. Southern in Home Finale

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson volleyball team will host its final Southern Conference games this weekend as the Wildcats welcome league foes The Citadel and Georgia Southern to Belk Arena. The squad will take on the Bulldogs Friday evening in a 7 p.m. contest before squaring off with the Eagles Saturday afternoon in a 2 p.m. Senior Day match.

SERIES HISTORIES
Friday is the 30th all-time match-up between Davidson and The Citadel since the first meeting in 1998, with the Wildcats boasting a 28-1 series advantage. The Cats took both contests in 2012, winning 3-0 at Belk Arena before taking a 3-2 match in Charleston. This weekend is also the 41st all-time meeting between the Wildcats and the Eagles, who first met in 1995. Georgia Southern, who leads the league at 11-2 in the SoCon this year, holds a 25-15 advantage in the series and took both games last season.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
The Citadel enters the match up with a 5-23 overall record and 0-12 mark in league play. The Bulldogs have earned wins over Savannah State (3-0 twice), Bethune-Cookman (3-0), S.C. State (3-0) and common opponent Gardner-Webb (3-1). The squad was led by Ise D'Angelo, who averaged 1.95 kills per set before suffering an injury, and is now led Bailey Kernodle, who is averaging 1.73 kills per set. Erin Bucherl is the team leader with 4.08 digs per set, while Lauren Hurt averages 1.14 blocks per set.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
At 11-2, Georgia Southern ranks at the top of the league in numerous statistical categories. The Eagles lead the SoCon in opponent hitting percentage (.161) and rank second in hitting (.262), assists (12.67) and kills (13.67). Jamie DeRatt ranks second in the conference with 3.65 kills per set, while Katalin Minnerly tops the SoCon with 11.26 assists per set. Kym Coley is second in hitting at .393 and Crysten Curry ranks second in blocks with 1.24 per set.

SENIOR DAY
As Saturday's contest vs. Georgia Southern marks the home finale for the Wildcats, the squad will celebrate its annual Senior Day activities. Prior to the match, the careers of Caroline Brown, Megan Chamberlin, Taylor Pisel, Jenna Ptaschinski and Tindall Sewell will be celebrated.

As they prepare to wrap up their Davidson careers, Caroline Brown and Tindall Sewell have etched their names in the Wildcat record books. Last weekend, Brown moved into ninth place on the program's all-time kills list with 1,204 thus far in her career. She also ranks ninth all-time with 1,190 career digs, making her one of just a handful of Davidson players to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career. Brown is currently eight all-time with 121 service aces. Sewell, who led the NCAA in hitting as a sophomore, is on pace to graduate as the school's all-time leader in attacking percentage at .359. She is also the SoCon record holder in career hitting percentage, as well as the league's single season attacking percentage record holder at .430, set in 2011.

DEROCHIE DOES IT AGAIN
Despite being in just her first season of play, setter Mikayla Derochie is also setting records as a Wildcat. Derochie grabbed her sixth SoCon Freshman of the Week honor, breaking the league record of five set by Jo Wilks of Furman in 2012. The Ramona, Calif., native averaged 12.14 assists per set on the weekend, tying her career high with 53 assists vs. Chattanooga.Â
