25 Years of Women's Soccer Celebration Recap

DAVIDSON, N.C. - The events surrounding the celebration of 25 Years of Women's Soccer at Davidson were a great success. We were so pleased to have 25 alumnae and their families return to celebrate this remarkable accomplishment.
The program consisted of opening remarks from Head Coach Greg Ashton, followed by personal reflections from President Emeritus Bobby Vagt '69, a proud parent of a former player. Liz Clarke Rogers '92 spoke to the crowd of over 100 student athletes, parents, alumni, and administrators, sharing candid experiences, during the early years. While not in attendance, former coaches Diane Boettcher and Kevin Hundley sent special messages. These are included with a photo gallery at the end of this email.
Senior Meg Sanborn '14 provided the perspective of the women that wear the red and black today. After 25 years, what remains clear is the special bonds that were formed, the lifelong lessons learned at Davidson, and the unique experience of being a Division I student athlete at a rigorous academic institution. President Carol Quillen closed the program by addressing the importance of a Division I athletics program to Davidson.
Following the brunch, the alumnae were honored at half-time of the Davidson vs. Elon game. "It was fantastic to meet some members of the first team," Coach Ashton said. "It was really great for our current players and provided tremendous perspective on where they are now and a greater sense of appreciation having heard their stories. It was a special day and one that I will always remember."
On behalf of the women's soccer program and the DAF, we thank you for your continued support. Your support directly impacts the experiences of these student athletes and is truly appreciated. In the coming months, we will share more information on a fundraising challenge to celebrate and honor this milestone in Davidson women's soccer. We welcome your input as we work to further engage alumni and fans in support of Davidson College.
