DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Wildcat women's soccer team was honored again for their outstanding academic success this past season as they were recently awarded as a team as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
For the 19th consecutive year, Davidson earned the Women's College Team Academic Award from the NSCAA for the 2012-13 season. The program has won the award every year since the inception of it in 1996. The Wildcats were one of 595 women's teams to post a team grade point average of 3.0 or above to earn the academic team honor.
Davidson as team under the guidance of 10th-year head coach Greg Ashton finished with a team GPA of 3.34.
"The team takes great pride for all the hard work and success they have in the classroom," said head coach Ashton. "The NSCAA Team Academic Award is recognition for that hard work over the course of the year. Davidson is a challenging environment on top of the time and effort put into the soccer program. Being able to balance the two is critical for the team's overall success. I'm extremely proud of the team's academic achievements and all they do to represent Davidson College."
A total of 867 soccer teams (272 men, 595 women) posted a team GPA of 3.0 or higher to earn the NSCAA Team Academic Award. Of those teams, 189 schools had both their men's and women's program's recognized.
Davidson concluded the 2013 campaign, the program's 25th year overall, with a 6-11-4 record, while going 4-5-1 in SoCon play.
