Moniz-Soares Named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Brites Moniz-Soares of the Davidson women's tennis team was recently named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for January 30 after leading the Wildcats to their first win of the 2013 campaign.
The junior, who earned All-SoCon Second Team honors last year, picked up points for the Wildcats in both singles and doubles to lead them to a 4-3 home win over UNC Asheville this past weekend.
She scored a 7-5, 6-4 victory over UNCA's Zoe Hamel at No. 1 singles for her first win of the season. Moniz-Soares then teamed with freshman Elaina Cummer to defeat Hamel and Ericka Rivero by a score of 8-4 in No. 1 doubles action as Davidson swept all three spots.
Moiniz-Soares, an economics major, carries a 3.95 GPA. It's her first student-athlete of the week honor.
Davidson continues its nine-match homestand with a 3 p.m. match against Radford, Feb. 8.
