Pagonis Nears 5000M Record; Men's Track & Field Competes in WF Invite

Wake Forest Invitational Results
BLACKSBURG, Va./WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Senior Demetrios Pagonis came within less than two seconds of the school record in the 5000-meter run at the Virginia Tech Invitational, while the rest of the Davidson men's track and field team competed at the Wake Forest Invitational Saturday.
Pagonis placed second in 14:23.74, just shy of the school record of 14:22.35 set by Ryan Hopkins last season. The meet was held on the banked track at VT's Rector Field House.
The Wildcats also saw success in the 5000m at the Wake Forest Invitational, held on the flat track within the JDL Fast Track. Senior Vincent Weir won the event in 14:57.70, while freshman Daniel Samet and sophomore Chris Repecki both finished in the top five.
Sophomore Whitner Chase led Davidson in the 3000m with a seventh-place finish in 8:54.92, while freshman Patrick Rollo paced the 'Cats in the mile with an eighth-place finish in 4:27.78. Sophomore Wesley Laytham rounded out the top-10 in the event in 4:30.33.
Junior Michael Lorentsen (13-5 ¼, 4.10m) and freshman Jack McDowell placed eighth and ninth, respectively, in the pole vault with McDowell's mark earning him a place on Davidson's top-10 all-time performers list.
Freshman Xzavier Killings led the 'Cats in the short sprints, finishing the 60-meter dash in 7.29 seconds and the 200m in 23.88 seconds. Classmate Charles Rappe paced the 'Cats in the 400-meter dash in 53.88.
Davidson will return to the JDL Fast Track for the JDL Hilton Garden Invitational Feb. 1-2.
