Larry Hardaway '76 Named 2012 Hendrix Award Winner

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Davidson College and the Davidson Athletic Foundation are proud to announce that Larry Hardaway has been selected as the 2012 Hendrix Award winner. A graduate of the Class of 1976, Hardaway was a running back and three-year letter winner from 1973-1975. The third African-American recruited to play football at Davidson, Hardaway rushed 281 times in his career for 857 yards and four touchdowns. In 1974 he led the team in rushing with 111 carries for 372 yards and a touchdown.
In his career post-Davidson, Hardaway has been passionate about serving his community and making a difference. Over the past 35 years, he has been a prosecutor, public defender, business development attorney for Dade County, Florida, and Director for the City of Winter Haven. Currently he practices personal injury law and criminal law for his own law firm, Hardaway & Associates. Hardaway has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions and service to his community.
The Hendrix Award is presented annually to a Davidson football letterman who, by the use of lessons learned on the playing field, has gone on to achieve outstanding success in his chosen profession. This year's celebration will take place on November 17, 2012, with an on-field ceremony occurring between the first and second quarters of the football game against San Diego.
The Hendrix Award is named for Dr. James P. Hendrix '25, who starred on the football field at Davidson and served as the President of the Student Body. He was an all-state halfback on the 1924 team that finished 7-2-1, and was a member of the varsity track team. Later one of the nation's leading specialists in internal medicine, Hendrix served as a Trustee to the College for 13 years, and was an original member of the Davidson College Athletics Hall of Fame.
