NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its preseason regional rankings for NCAA Division I men's cross country Monday, ranking Davidson 11th in the Southeast region.
The Wildcats are the second-ranked Southern Conference team in the region, as UNCG ranks ninth. Davidson placed 14th in last year's NCAA Southeast Regional Championship.
NC State leads the region, giving the ACC the most representatives in the Top 15 with six.
Davidson opens the 2012 season Friday at the USC Upstate Eye Opener Invitational.
USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning team strength with current-season results in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships.
NCAA Division I Regional Championships will be held on Friday, November 9.
