Men’s Cross Country Picked Third in Preseason SoCon Poll

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Davidson men's cross country team ranked third in a preseason survey of Southern Conference coaches, receiving two first-place votes, the league office announced Wednesday.
UNCG was selected as the 2012 preseason favorite. The reigning SoCon Men's Champions, received nine first-place votes for a total of 99 points.
Appalachian State was picked second with 86 points. The 2011 conference runner-up Wildcats were selected third with 81 points. Furman was picked fourth (76 points).
Seniors Demetrios Pagonis, Wes Reynolds and Vincent Weir are the 'Cats' top returners. They all placed in the Top 20 at the 2011 SoCon Championship.
The Wildcats will open the season August 31 at the USC Upstate Eye Opener Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C. and look to defend last year's meet team title.
The 2012 SoCon Championship will be held in Charleston, S.C., on October 27.
