DAVIDSON, N.C. – For the second year in a row, the Davidson women's lacrosse team was honored by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) as the Wildcats were one of 42 teams recognized for their academic excellence for the 2012 season.
To qualify for recognition, these schools achieved a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or above for the 2011-2012 academic year. Davidson was one of four National Lacrosse Conference teams to earn a spot on the list, joining Jacksonville, Longwood and Detroit Mercy.
“I'm very proud of the team for all of their hard work and dedication to their academics,” said head coach Kim Wayne. “Obtaining a team GPA of above a 3.0 is not an easy task at Davidson, but it's something that each and every one of my athletes work hard to achieve.”
Leading the way academically was Abigail Doelger (West Hartford, Conn.), Paige Logan (Garden City, N.Y.) and Erin Keitel (Carlsbad, Calif.), who each were named to the NLC All-Academic Team this past season.
The IWLCA academic list also included NCAA champion Northwestern and NCAA semifinalist Duke. Eleven squads that participated in the NCAA Championships were named as academic squads.
The Wildcats are coming off an 8-10 campaign in 2012. They finished 4-3 and reached the semifinals of the tournament in their final season in the NLC. They will move to the Big South Conference to start the 2013 season.
