Funsten Named Preseason All-PFL

ST. LOUIS — Davidson senior Lanny Funsten added 2012 Preseason All-PFL honors to his long list of preseason accolades Tuesday, as the Pioneer Football League recognized him as one of three wide receivers named to the all-conference team.
The Raleigh, N.C. native is coming off a school-record 100-reception season a year ago, in which he led the PFL with 1,107 yards receiving. He also caught eight touchdown passes and ranked seventh in the PFL in all-purpose yards in 2011.
Following the season, Funsten was named first-team All-America by BeyondSportsCollegeNetwork.com and second-team All-Pioneer Football League by the conference's coaches.
Funsten has been named as a preseason All-American by College Sporting News, The Sports Network and BeyondSportsCollegeNetwork.com for the upcoming season. He was also named to the 2012 College Football Performance Awards Watch List along with teammate Toms Bernhards-Callahan, who was on the Punter Returner watch list.
The Wildcats return 12 starters and 43 lettermen from last year's squad that went 4-7 overall and 2-6 in the PFL. The 2012 season begins in Richardson Stadium against Georgetown, Sept. 1.
