DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson men's cross country team will compete close to home and amongst the nation's best during their 2012 season slate, announced Thursday by head coach Gary Andrew.
The Wildcats will open the season Aug. 31 at the USC Upstate Eye Opener Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C. and look to defend last year's team title. After an off-weekend, the 'Cats will compete in the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, Va on Sept. 14.
Davidson will compete in a meet hosted by UNC Charlotte in nearby McAlpine Park on Sept. 28. The event will be especially important this season as the NCAA Southeast Region Championships will be hosted at McAlpine Park on Nov. 9.
The University of Louisville's Tom Sawyer Park, which has recently served as the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship site, will host the NCAA National Championship this season, thus the Cardinals will host a NCAA Pre-Nationals event that Davidson will compete in Oct. 13. The 'Cats will also have representatives the day prior at McAlpine Park in the Royal Cross Country Challenge hosted by Queens University. Davidson is the defending champion of the event.
Both meets will serve as the final tune-ups prior to the Southern Conference Championships, which will be hosted by The Citadel at Laurel Hill Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. on Oct. 27.
