DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Southern Conference announced its Academic All-Conference team for the 2012 Spring season Thursday, which included 17 Davidson student-athletes.
A total of 311 student-athletes were named to the team. Among those 311 student-athletes were at least 15 representatives from each of the 12 SoCon institutions, participating in baseball, softball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's outdoor track and field, and men's and women's tennis. The group recorded a combined 3.60 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
The Wildcats' men's outdoor track and field team led Davidson with six honorees. The women's outdoor track and field team was next with five student-athletes on the team.
Overall for the SoCon, the women's outdoor track and field programs supplied the greatest number of honorees with 77, followed by men's outdoor track and field with 53 and baseball with 50.
To be eligible, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average entering the winter season and were required to compete in at least one-half of their team's competitions during the recently concluded winter campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least 24 credit hours in the previous two semesters.
Among member institutions, Furman paced all league schools with 39 members on the academic all-conference team. Closely behind was Samford with 36 student-athletes earning recognition along with 30 from Wofford.
