Pagonis Named to Men’s Track & Field Academic All-District Team

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Junior Davidson distance runner Demetrios Pagonis was named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), on Thursday CoSIDA announced. As a first-team selection, Pagonis advances to the national ballot for the Capital One Academic All-America team.
The Westminster, Md. native was the 2012 Southern Conference Indoor Champion in the 5000-meter run, finishing the race just .12 seconds shy of the school record in 14:22.47. Pagonis also earned a podium finish in the 3000-meter run, taking the bronze in a school-record 8:16.27. He initially broke the indoor 5000m school record in the season opening meet (14:34.84) before senior Ryan Hopkins bested his standard later in the season.
Pagonis was also named to the All-Southern Conference team with a third-place finish in the outdoor 5000m at the SoCon Championships.
A chemistry major, Pagonis was twice named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week during the 2011-12 season and he also has been named to the SoCon All-Academic team.
