DAVIDSON, N.C. – In tournaments held Monday and Tuesday, incoming freshman Alex Nianouris placed second in the North Carolina 2A State Championship at Longleaf Country Club, while future classmate David Sargent placed in a tie for 13th in the 4A State Championship at Pinehurst No. 8.
Nianouris tied for the lead at 140 (70+70), but was defeated in a playoff. He led Salisbury H.S. to a 31-stroke victory. Sargent fired a 149 (74+75) to lead Hough H.S. to a fifth-place finish.
The local duo will comprise Davidson men's golf Class of 2016, which loses just one senior, Jackson Taylor, to graduation.
