MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – Davidson LHP Henry Sisson's no-hitter was also recognized as the nation's top pitching performance of the week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), which named him the National Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.
Sisson is the second Wildcat to ever win the NCBWA award. Wes Self earned the same honor after his season-opening no-hitter in 2001.
Sisson threw the sixth no-hitter in Davidson history Friday night and the first since Self's in 2001, as the Wildcats shut out Wofford, 1-0. The milestone came in just Sisson's fifth career start as he upped his record to 2-1. The Chevy Chase, Md. native and St. Albans School graduate allowed four base runners on three walks and an error and matched his career high of nine strikeouts.
Sisson was named as Louisville Slugger's National Pitcher ofthe Week and the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week Monday.
Davidson next plays at Duke Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. For more information about the NCBWA, visit the association's official Web site, www.ncbwa.com.
