KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – No. 21 Kent State won the Irish Creek Collegiate by 14 strokes and Davidson men's golf placed 12th at 885 (299+291+295) after the final round Sunday at The Club at Irish Creek.
Kent State (825) and No. 17 Duke (839) both shot tournament-low rounds of 272, 12-under par Sunday to claim the top spots in the team standings. Mercer's James Beale shota three-round score of 200 (-13) to win individual medalist honors by two strokes over No. 13 Julian Suri of Duke.
Junior John Skeadas led Davidson on the par-71, 7099-yard course, firing a final-round, two-under par 69 to place in a tie for 29th at 217, four-over par.
Sophomore Richard Fountain finished in a tie for 38th in the competitive field at 219 (75+70+74), six-over par. Classmate Sam Echikson was Davidson's third-best finisher in a tie for 53rd at 224. Senior Jackson Taylor (230) and freshman Ralph Blasey (231) also competed for the Wildcats.
Charlotte and Davidson hosted the tournament in conjunction with the Charlotte Regional Sports Commission.
Davidson will next compete at the Wofford Invitational, April 9-10.
