DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson women's lacrosse team, in the midst of a six-game homestand, will look to even its record when they play host to the Siena Saints on Saturday afternoon at Richardson Stadium.
The Opening Draw Control
Davidson (2-3) is currently 2-2 on its season-long homestand and looks to win its second straight when the Wildcats battle Siena (0-5) on Saturday, March 10, at 3 p.m. in Richardson Stadium.
The All-Time Series/Last Meeting
This will be the first time Davidson has faced Siena in program history.
Last Time Out...
... Davidson — Freshman Mary Leonard netted a season-best three goals and three other Wildcats had two goals apiece in leading Davidson to a 13-9 decision over visiting Saint Francis (Pa.).
Leonard was joined in the scoring column by Erin Doherty, Ann Fucigna and Jenna Mugele, who all registered two goals apiece. Four other Wildcats tallied single goals, with Alanna Parker and Catherine Schmidt picking up single assists.
After Simmons gave Saint Francis a brief 1-0 lead five minutes into the contest, Leonard got the Wildcats rolling scoring the first two goals of a 6-0 run. She scored almost a minute later after Simmons and then gave Davidson the lead for good at 2-1 with 23:12 on the clock.
The Red Flash then came out of the break to get within one, 7-6, on Casey Burk's goal off a pass from Conwell with 18:46 left. Mugele answered back after a quick timeout by the 'Cats with a free-position goal and it sparked a 5-0 run that would put the game away.
Game Notes: Erin Doherty was named National Lacrosse Conference Players of the Week on Tuesday.
... Siena — The Saints played by far their best game of the year, but fell just short to crosstown rival and 18th ranked UAlbany 12-10 in the home opener at Siena Turf Field.
The Saints came out firing early, reeling off four straight goals to take a 5-3 lead with 6:49 remaining in the first half. The Saints were remarkably efficient in the first half scoring eight goals on just 12 shots and took an 8-7 lead into intermission.
The Albany dialed it up defensively in the second half, holding the Saints for 14 minutes between goals and ultimately would score three unanswered to take a 12-9 lead late.
Deirdre McQuillan led the Saints with three goals and an assist, while classmate Kristin McMillan netted a hat trick. Kristin Concordia was strong in goal registering 11 saves.
