KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – No. 21 Kent State leads the Irish Creek Collegiate and Davidson men's golf trails in 11th place at 590 (299+291) after two rounds Saturday at The Club at Irish Creek.
Davidson is nine strokes behind 10th-place Northern Illinois (581). At 15-under par, Kent State has a 12-stroke lead over second-place Mercer (565, -3). No. 17 Duke is third at 5667, one-under par.
Xavier's Sebastian MacLean leads by two strokes at 134, five-under par.
Sophomore Richard Fountain led Davidson on the par-71, 7099-yard course for the day, finishing in a tie for 31st place at 145 (75+70), three-over par. Junior John Skeadas and sophomore Sam Echikson both shot first-round, one-over 72's, but Skeadas fired a 76 in the second round to place in a tie for 44th (148, +6) and Echikson shot a 77 to place in a tie for 48th (149, +7). Freshman Ralph Blasey and Jackson Taylor are tied for 62nd (153, +11) after struggling in the first round, but rebounding to shoot a 72 and 73, respectively, in the second round.
Charlotte and Davidson host the tournament in conjunction with the Charlotte Regional Sports Commission.
The third and final round will begin Sunday at 8 a.m. Davidson tees off from Hole 10 at 9:30 a.m.
