CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Freshman Anthony Elias and senior Tyler Mullen both earned victories as Davidson placed seventh at the 75th annual Southern Conference Wrestling Championships hosted by Chattanooga Saturday in McKenzie Arena.

Elias, a five-seed in the 133-pound bracket, suffered a technical fall to Appalachian State's Brett Boston, 17-2 in his opening match, but pinned the third-seed, Kyle Casaletto of The Citadel, to reach the third-place bout. Elias had to meet Boston again though, and the Mountaineer prevailed with a 13-5 major decision.

Mullen entered as a No. 6 seed and won his opening-round match against No. 3 seed Ryan Krecker (Campbell), 7-3. Mullen was unable to defeat eventual conference champion Brandon Wright (Chattanooga) though, suffering a technical fall. He then suffered a 7-2 defeat to No. 4 seed Carry Joseph (VMI) in the consolation semifinals.

Junior Matt Zarth (125 pounds), freshman Ben Hartshorn (141), freshman Kevin Birmingham (149), sophomore CT Talevi (157), freshman Ian Solcz (174) and freshman Ed Isola (197) also competed for Davidson.

The Chattanooga Mocs jumped out to a big lead and cruised to the team title. The Mocs put eight wrestlers in the finals and had four take home titles on their way to the 26th tournament championship in school history.
