DAVIDSON, N.C. – After leading Davidson with a career day last Saturday, March 24, in the 'Cats' first National Lacrosse Conference win of the season, sophomore Ann Fucigna was named the NLC Offensive Player of the Week for games played on March 19-26 as announced by the league office.
Fucigna assisted the Wildcats to a season-high 21 goals by going off for five goals and assisting on five others for a career-best 10 points in a 21-15 win vs. the Presbyterian Blue Hose. The second-year starter's 10 points were one off the school's single-game record, while her five assists were a personal-best.
The attacker was very efficient with her shots, netting five goals on just six shots for a season-high. The five goals were one off her career-high, which she set last year in a road win at Presbyterian.
Fucigna becomes the six Wildcat this year to garner one of the three weekly NLC awards. She paces the team with 21 goals, 10 assists and 31 points. Fucigna also has two-game winning scores, one of which came in a thrilling 14-13 win vs. Siena when she scored the game-winner with 29 seconds left in regulation.
The NLC Newcomer of the Week was Morgan Becker from Liberty, while the NLC Defensive Player of the Week went to Anna Wallingford of High Point.
The Wildcats remain at home and will host Oregon for the first time since 2007 for a 6 p.m. contest Tuesday, March 27.
