DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson baseball returns to Wilson Field to host in-state foe Duke Tuesday at 7 p.m.
After playing four-straight games on the road, the Wildcats are hosting the Blue Devils before returning to the road for their next four games. The starting pitchers for both squads are to be determined.
The Series
Davidson trails in the all-time series 29-107-1, which dates back to 1902, but has won three out of the last five meetings. The Wildcats split the season series last season, winning the home contest 9-7.
Last Time Out
College of Charleston swept Davidson in a three-game Southern Conference series in Charleston. Three pitchers combined to hold the Wildcats scoreless for a 6-0 Cougar victory Sunday. CofC used a pair of first inning home runs Saturday en route to a 6-2 win Saturday after taking a 16-3 win in the series opener Friday.
About the Wildcats (8-13, 2-7 SoCon)
After winning three-straight games over Elon and NC Central, Davidson was swept by College of Charleston, so the 'Cats will look to return to the win column against Duke. Senior centerfielder Drew Gadaire is the only Wildcat to reach base in each game so far this season. Dating back to last season, his reached-base streak is now 27 consecutive games. He also has an eight-game hitting streak and ranks 48th in the country with nine doubles. The 'Cats are one of the most aggressive teams on the base paths this season, ranking 36th in the country in stolen bases per game.'
About the Blue Devils (11-14, 4-5 ACC)
Duke earned its first ACC series sweep since 2004 after winning three games at Virginia Tech this past weekend. The Blue Devils are halfway through and eight-game road stretch. Duke is 0-3 in contests against SoCon opponents this season, falling to Western Carolina and dropping a pair to Appalachian State. The Blue Devils boast four starters in their lineup with batting averages above .300. Grant McCabe leads with a .341 mark and has 16 RBI. Will Piwnica-Worms has provided the most power with a team-leading three home runs and 19 RBI while hitting at a .330 clip.
