Spring Roster
DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Davidson football team opens its 15-session spring practice schedule today in Richardson Stadium with 72 players on its active roster.
Head Coach Tripp Merritt returns six starters on the offensive side of the ball, including quarterback Jonathan Carkhuff, who set a school record for passing yards and completions in 2011.
Davidson's leading rusher, Chris Gorman, and leading receiver, Lanny Funsten, also return in 2012. Funsten caught a school-record 100 passes for 1,107 yards and eight touchdowns, while Gorman had 123 carries for 591 yards and a TD. The sophomore also caught 35 passes for 229 yards and finished the campaign with 820 all-purpose markers.
Five starters return on defense, including both cornerbacks, Adam Dulberger and Michael Corbett. Dulberger was fourth on the team with 53 tackles and tallied two interceptions and three pass breakups. Corbett compiled 33 tackles, three interceptions and a team-leading 10 pass breakups.
Leading tackler Patrick Moynahan also returns after posting 72 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in 2011.
"We have some holes to fill on both sides of the ball, and we have the talent in place to fill those holes," said Merritt. "Spring football is the time to develop that talent so it will be a big Spring for a lot of young guys."
Forty-three of the Wildcats' 65 letterwinners from 2011 will participate in the spring workouts.
