DAVIDSON, N.C. — Winners of 11 of their first 13 Southern Conference games, Davidson looks to keep the hot streak rolling when it plays UNCG for the first time this season on Wednesday evening in women's basketball in John M. Belk Arena.
The Opening Tip
Davidson (15-7, 11-2 SoCon), winners in 13 of its last 16 games, looks to push its overall win streak to five straight when it hosts the UNCG Spartans (3-19, 2-12 SoCon) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The Wildcats sit alone in second place in the league standings, trailing just Appalachian State which is 12-1. The 'Cats gave ASU its only league defeat so far back on Jan. 15, 55-52.
The All-Time Series/Last Meeting ...
... is 28-14 in favor of UNCG after both teams split last year's two meetings. The Wildcats have won seven of the last 10 meetings though.
In last year's final contest at UNCG, sophomore Sophia Aleksandravicius had her second straight 20-point game and Kristen Johnsen hit the winning free throw as Davidson held on for a 53-52 road win at UNCG.
Tied at 52-all, Johnsen was fouled on layup attempt with the shot clock running down putting the junior at the line with 44 ticks left. Johnsen hit the first one to give Davidson a one-point lead, but saw the second free throw hit the front iron allowing UNCG to tie it or win it on its possession, which turned out to be three chances. Davidson halted all three chances and held on for the victory.
Game Notes...
Best Run in SoCon in Program History
Davidson has been on a roll as of late in the Southern Conference, resulting in the best run in program history. The Wildcats 11-2 record in league play is the best through 13 SoCon games in program history. The spurt included a 5-0 start to open league, two games off the best start set by the 2008-09 squad.
SoCon Season-Series Sweeps
Davidson earned its fourth SoCon season-series sweep when it scored a 69-62 road win at Georgia Southern, Feb. 6. The Wildcats have already sweep the two-game series vs. Furman (61-50 & 78-57), College of Charleston (56-39 & 46-23) and Western Carolina (64-46 & 58-45).
SoCon Double-Figure Streak Reaches 18 for Murray
Sophomore Laura Murray kept her streak of scoring in double figures during the regular season vs. Southern Conference foes intact when she dropped in a game-high 17 points on the road at Georgia Southern, Feb, 6. She has now scored in double digits in 18 straight league games.
