DAVIDSON, N.C. — The two-team Southern Conference women's basketball teams will meet up on Saturday as second-place Davidson hosts first-place Appalachian State in a big contest at John M. Belk Arena with the Wildcats looking to keep their winning ways rolling.
The Opening Tip
Davidson (18-7, 14-2 SoCon), which enters Saturday's tilt riding a seven-game win streak, will look for the season-series sweep vs. the visiting Appalachian State Mountaineers (21-3, 15-1 SoCon) on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 2:30 p.m. The Mountaineers have won their last 10 games in a row after suffering their only league defeat at the hands of Davidson, Jan. 15.
The game is part of a doubleheader with the men's team, who will play #24 Wichita State in the Sears BracketBuster at 12 p.m.
Game Promotions
Saturday's game is also the Wildcats' 5th annual WBCA Pink Zone Game for Breast Cancer Awareness. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. There will be t-shirts available to purchase at the game for $14, while top prizes like a flat-screen TV, iPad, two $100 Lowe's gift card, $150 Harris Teeter gift card and other prizes from local area businesses will be given away throughout the game.
The All-Time Series/Last Meeting ...
... is 24-18 in favor of ASU after the Wildcats took the first meeting this year, 55-52, on the road. The Wildcats snapped a six-game skid in the series with the win.
In their Jan. 15 matchup this year, Sophia Aleksandravicius tallied game highs of 17 points, 20 rebounds and seven blocks, including her final one that sealed the Wildcats win, as they pulled out a 55-52 nail-biter at Appalachian State.
The 6-foot-4 Wildcat forward did it all for Davidson as the Wildcats shook off a terrible shooting first half to snap their six-game losing streak against the Mountaineers. She had a double-double in the second half alone with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Aleksandravicius' 20 rebounds were a career-best.

Wildcats Tie School Mark, Best Run in SoCon in Program History
Davidson has been on a roll as of late in the Southern Conference, resulting in the best run in program history. The Wildcats' 14-2 record in league play is the best through 16 SoCon games in program history. The 14 league wins ties a school record. This season saw the 'Cats get off to a 5-0 start to open league play, two games off the best start set by the 2008-09 squad.
Road Streak Pushed to Five Straight
Davidson continued its winning ways on the road when it scored its fifth straight victory away from Belk Arena in a 58-49 triumph at UNCG, Feb. 14.
The streak is the longest since the 2006-07 squad rattled off a school-record eight straight away from Belk Arena.
New Overall Season-Best Win Streak, Seven Straight
The Wildcats pushed their season-best win streak to seven in a row after taking home a 58-49 victory at UNCG, Feb. 14. The streak started Jan. 23 vs. Chattanooga at home as Davidson has picked up three home wins and four road wins during the run.
Davidson as a team is outscoring its opponents 65-49 during the win streak. Laura Murray has paced the offense, shooting a solid 48.8 percent from the field and even better from downtown at 50 percent. She is averaging a team-best 15.6 points.
Sophia Aleksandravicius is dropping in 13 points and nine rebounds, while having swatted away 26 blocks in the seven games.
The win streak is the longest since the 2009-10 team rattled off six straight. The school record is 10 in a row set by the 2006-07 team.
SoCon Double-Figure Streak Reaches 21 for Murray
Sophomore Laura Murray kept her streak of scoring in double figures during the regular season vs. Southern Conference foes intact when she dropped in 10 points at UNCG, Feb, 14. She has now scored in double digits in 21 straight league games.
The shooting guard started the streak last year in Chattanooga and closed the year with five straight double-digit scoring games, including a 23-point effort vs. Georgia Southern. This year has seen her hit the 20-mark four times in games vs. Elon, at Furman, vs. Samford and vs. UNCG.
Seeing Double Again
For the 10th time this year and 29th time overall for her career, Sophia Aleksandravicius tallied a double-double as she picked up 14 points and 10 rebounds in a road win vs. UNCG, Feb. 14.

National Rankings
Three Wildcats have seen their names among the nations best in several categories. Point guard Barbara Sitton ranks in the top-100 in the assists per game (4.3- 82nd) and steals per game (2.8-40th). Sharp-shooter Laura Murray is third nationally in three-point percentage (.436) as she has hit a personal-best 58 triples on the season. Sophia Aleksandravicius ranks eighth nationally in blocks per game (3.2) and her 9.2 rebounds per contest are 49th.
Davidson as a team ranks in the top-100 in six different categories, including 24th in blocks (5.2) and 33rd in three-point accuracy (.349).
Scouting the Wildcats
•Davidson scored its season-best seventh win in a row, a 58-49 triumph at UNCG on Tuesday.
•The win was the Wildcats' 16th in the last 19 games and they remained perfect in Feb. (5-0).
•The win streak is the longest since the 2006-07 team rattled off 10 in a row.
•Davidson had its 14th game of holding an opponent to under 36 percent shooting in the win at UNCG. The Wildcats are 13-1 in those contests.
•The 'Cats are 14-2 in league play, tying the school record for league wins set in '04-05 (14-6).
•Davidson has won 16 of 19 SoCon games overall dating back to last year (nine wins at home).
•Davidson's 18 wins are the most since the 2007-08 squad went 19-11 overall.
•Sophia Aleksandravicius had her 10th double-double (14 pts/10 rbs) in the win at UNCG.
•She is fourth in the SoCon in scoring (14.1) and first in rebounds (9.2) and blocks (3.2).
•The 6-foot-4 forward has 224 blocks for her career, tops in program history, and is climbing the rebounding charts with 742, good for 4th all-time.
•Laura Murray (team-best 15.2 ppg & 3rd in SoCon) had her 21st straight SoCon game of scoring in double figures with 10 points at UNCG. She has 22 double-figure scoring games this year.
•Barbara Sitton reached the 300-mark in career assists at UNCG with five dimes.
•She is second in the league at 4.3 per game with 108 for the season, 21 off her career-best.
•Shneeka Center came off the bench for a solid game of 10 points, five boards, three asists and three steals in the win at UNCG.
•Kristen Johnsen matched her career-best with 14 rebounds at UNCG and needs 11 more boards to reach the 500-mark for her career.
•Davidson is tied for the best record at home in program history at 10-1 (7-1 vs. SoCon). Its riding a three-game home win streak and has won 14 of its last 16 at home dating back to last year.
•The 'Cats' as a team are second in the SoCon in scoring (64.7) and field goal percentage (.420). •They also rank first defensively in field goal percentage (.353).
•The 'Cats, picked fifth in the SoCon preseason poll, return four starters and nine letterwinners.
•Head coach Michele Savage enters her second year at Davidson (32-24, 22-14 SoCon).
Scouting the Mountaineers
•The Mountaineers have been on a roll since last losing to Davidson, Jan. 15. They won their 10th straight game with an 84-68 triumph at home vs. Elon, Feb. 13.
•Maryah Sydnor paced four scorers in double figures with 19 points in the win at Elon.
•Anna Freeman leads ASU and the SoCon in scoring at 15.8 points a game.
•She was held to just eight points last meeting vs. the Wildcats, but did have seven steals. She has a SoCon-best 91 steals on the year.
•ASU is 10-2 overall on the road, including a perfect 7-0 in conference games.
•The Mountaineers lead the conference in scoring at 67.3 points and rebounds at 43.1 per game.
•ASU is ranked ninth in the latest Collegeinsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 poll.
•The Mountaineers, picked second in preseason poll, return three starters and 10 letterwinners.
•Head coach Darcie Vincent is in her fourth season, owning a 78-44 record at ASU.
