Wrestling Wins Third Straight Dual Meet

ANDERSON, S.C. – Davidson claimed the final five bouts to break a 12-12 tie with Anderson to earn a 39-12 victory in non-conference wrestling action Wednesday evening in Abney Athletic Center.
Davidson is 3-0 for the first time since the start of the 2004-05 season. The 39 points Anderson (0-4) allowed was the most it had surrendered this year after opening against Ohio, Chattanooga and Virginia.
The Wildcats claimed bonus points in each of their seven victories. Sophomore Philip Elias (125 pounds), senior Chris Cirenza (165 pounds), freshman Carson Stack (197 pounds) and sophomore Ed Isola (285 pounds) all won their matches by fall. Sophomore Sejiro Littleton earned the maximum six points at 141 pounds by forfeit. Junior Scott Patrick won at 184 pounds with a 15-0 technical fall, and sophomore Ian Solcz won the 174-pound bout with a 12-3 major decision.
Zak Hale (133) and Nick Giuliette (157) both won by decision and Dan Telhada claimed the 149-pound match with an injury default for Anderson's lone victories.
Elias opened the match at 125 pounds with a win by fall in 3:18, but Hale halved the 'Cats' lead with an 8-2 decision at 133. Davidson moved ahead 12-3 when Littleton went unopposed, but the Trojans tied the match with the injury default at 149 and Giuliette's 4-2 decision at 157.
Starting with Cirenza's win by fall at 165 pounds in 4:27, the 'Cats claimed the final five bouts for the 39-12 margin. After Solcz' (174) and Patrick's (184) victories, Stack (197) and Isola (285) posted the two quickest pins of the match in 2:47 and 3:15, respectively.
Davidson will next compete at the Wolfpack Open, hosted by NC State, and then will host No. 5 Ohio State Thursday, Nov. 15 in Belk Arena at 7 p.m.
