DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Wildcats continue their road swing to open the season by taking a trip to Piscataway, N.J., to face Rutgers for the first time in program history Sunday, Nov. 25.
Davidson, coming off its first win of the campaign in its final game of the preseason WNIT, will battle the Scarlet Knights at 2 p.m. in the Rutgers Athletic Center (The RAC).
Game Notes: Opening Tip
•Davidson concluded the preseason WNIT with a solid 63-54 win vs. Kennesaw State in its last consolation game. The 'Cats led by as many as 26 points in cruising to its first win of the season.
•Sophia Aleksandravicius led 11 Wildcats who etched their names in the scorer's book with 15 points. She is averaging a double-double (14 ppg/10.7 rpg) on the year.
•She tallied her 31st career double-double vs. Northern Illinois last Saturday (18 pts/11 rbs).
•The 'Cats got a season-best 33 points from their bench and scored 32 points in the paint vs. KSU.
•They shot an even 50 percent in the second half, the first time its done that this year in any half.
•Freshman Dakota Dukes combined for 20 points and five rebounds in Davidson's two games vs. NIU and KSU.
•Laura Murray is second on the team in scoring at an even eight points.
•The 'Cats return four starters and 12 letterwinners from last year's 22-10 squad.
•Head coach Michele Savage enters her third year at Davidson (37-29, 25-15 SoCon).
Preseason WNIT
•Davidson was making its third appearance in the preseason WNIT. It is 1-4 all-time after going 1-2 this year vs. UNC (L, 59-70), NIU (L, 61-64) and KSU (W, 63-54).
Preseason Honors
•Davidson was picked first in the SoCon preseason coaches poll and second in the media poll.
•Aleksandravicius was tabbed the preseason SoCon Player of the Year favorite, while she and Murray were named to the coaches preseason all-league team for the second time.
•Collegesportsmadness.com named its preseason All-SoCon Team, picking coach Savage as Coach of the Year and putting Murray and Aleksandravicius on the first team.
Sophia Aleksandravicius & Barbara Sitton- Record Watch
•Aleksandravicius is 168 points away from setting the all-time scoring mark, while she is 51 rebounds away from the rebounding record. She already holds all the career blocking records.
•Barbara Sitton needs just five more assists to move into second place all-time.
Series vs. Rutgers
•This will be the first time Davidson has faced Rutgers.
Scouting the Scarlet Knights
•Rutgers played at Temple on Wednesday and took home a 66-50 road win to move to 2-1 on the season. The Scarlet Knights held the Owls to 14 first-half points and scored 29 points off 24 turnovers.
•Erica Wheeler (14) and Betnijah Laney (13) each reached the double-digit mark in points.
•Monique Oliver paces the team with a 12.5 points per game average. She also is averaging 7.5 rebounds a contest.
•Rutgers was picked fifth in the Big East preseason poll. Oliver was an all-league preseason pick after averaging 11.8 points and 7.3 rebounds last year.
•Oliver, an All-Big East honorable mention last year, is on the early season Naismith Watch List.
•The Scarlet Knights made the NCAA Tournament for the 10th straight season last year. They have reached the tournament 23 times in their history, dating back to 1974.
•Rutgers finished 22-10 a year ago and returns nine of its 13 letterwinners.
•Women's Basketball Hall of Fame head coach Vivian Stringer has compiled 887 wins in 42 years.
A Look Ahead
The Wildcats continue their six-game road swing with a trip to Macon, Ga., to face off against Mercer, Nov. 28. The two teams met last year in Davidson, with the 'Cats taking a 75-60 victory.
