DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Wildcat women's soccer squad was again honored for their outstanding academic success this past season as they were recently honored as a team as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
For the 18th consecutive year, Davidson earned the Women's College Team Academic Award from the NSCAA for the 2011-12 season. The program has won the award every year since the inception of it in 1996. The Wildcats were one of 504 women's teams to earn the academic honor and one of 152 schools that had both their men's and women's programs recognized.
“The team takes great pride for all the hard work and success they have in the classroom,” said head coach Greg Ashton. “The NSCAA Team Academic Award is recognition for that hard work over the course of the year. Davidson is a challenging environment on top of the time and effort put into the soccer program. Being able to balance the two is critical for the team's overall success. I'm extremely proud of the team's academic achievements and all they do to represent Davidson College.”
A total of 726 teams (222 men, 504 women) posted a team GPA of 3.0 or higher to earn the NSCAA Team Academic Award.
Davidson concluded its 2012 campaign with a 7-10-3 record, while going 5-5-1 in SoCon play as it finished up its ninth year under the guidance of Ashton.
