DAVIDSON, N.C. - Rory Carpenter has joined the Davidson men's track and field staff as an assistant coach, head coach Gary Andrew announced Wednesday.
Carpenter most recently served as a graduate assistant coach for the Texas State track and field program for the past two years, where he focused primarily on the jumps and multis and specialized in the high jump. Carpenter also helped with the recruitment of incoming student-athletes, as well as overseeing all weightlifting for the jump and multi-event athletes as a certified strength coach.
"I'm excited to be a part of Davidson track & field,” said Carpenter. “I think we have some great talent in the sprints/jumps group that can do some exciting things this season and at the conference championships."
During his stint at Texas State, he guided five indoor Southland Conference medalists, including one champion and NCAA indoor provisional qualifier, and also coached eight outdoor conference medalists, including five Southland champions and five NCAA regional qualifiers. He also served as an assistant coach to a three-time All-American and Olympic Trials qualifier in the pole vault, Logan Cunningham.
“We're excited to welcome Rory to the Davidson community,” said Andrew. “He's a rising star in the coaching ranks and brings to our program great energy and a thorough knowledge of the sprints, hurdles and jumping events.”
Carpenter is USATF Level II certified in the jumps and USTFCCCA certified in the sprints, hurdles and relays, and is also a NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist.
He graduated from Texas State in 2010 with a degree in exercise and sports science and received his master's degree in exercise science in August 2012, also from Texas State.
