DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson women's basketball team will continue their play in the preseason women's NIT with a trip to Morehead, Ky., for consolation games against Northern Illinois, Morehead State and Kennesaw State, Nov. 17-18, as announced by the WNIT today.
The Wildcats (0-1) opened the season with a first-round game at North Carolina Friday, Nov. 9. They hung tough throughout the game, before seeing UNC use a 17-1 run midway through the second half to break open a 40-all game and go onto a 70-59 win over Davidson.
Davidson's next game as part of the consolation side of the tournament will be against Northern Illinois Saturday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. on the campus of Morehead State, which is the host school for the consolation games. NIU played at Iowa in the first round and suffered a 63-40 defeat.
The host Eagles will play Kennesaw State in the first game Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Morehead State lost to Illinois State, 62-45, while Kennesaw State dropped an 87-45 decision to host Middle Tennessee State in its first round game.
Depending on the outcome for the Wildcats, they would face the winner/loser of the game vs. Morehead State and Kennesaw State on Sunday, Nov. 18. Gametimes are set for 5 and 7 p.m., with Morehead State playing in the 5 p.m. contest whether it wins or loses its second-round game vs. the Owls.
This will be the Wildcats' first time facing any of the three teams. They are making their third appearance in the preseason Women's NIT, with their most recent invitation coming during the 2004-05 campaign when it opened the season against Duke.
