SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Senior Julie Calhoun capped off an outstanding senior season by earning a spot on the All-Southern Conference Second Team as announced by the league office today.
Calhoun was the lone Wildcat as she earned her first all-conference nod during her career. The senior finished off her last year by starting all 20 games and tallying career bests of two goals and five points. She was part of 18 shutouts over the last three years as one Davidson's top defenders.
In her final collegiate game, Calhoun registered a goal and assist in nearly leading Davidson back from a 3-0 deficit, before the 'Cats fell 3-2 in the quarterfinals of the SoCon Tournament to conclude their season.
“I'm thrilled that Julie has been recognized by the SoCon coaches for her outstanding contribution to the program, not only this season, but her four years here,” said head coach Greg Ashton. “She has been a valuable member of the team with her ability to defend and get up and down the left flank to help in the attack. Her final game for Davidson where she played all-out for 90 minutes ,assisted and then scored, really epitomizes her competitive nature. Her graduation will be a huge loss to the program and will be difficult to replace.”
The senior defender, who helped guide the Wildcats to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2009, closed out her career with four goals, two assists and 10 points, while starting 57 of her 75 games played.
Furman forward Stephanie DeVita became the league's fourth player to be named the SoCon Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year. The Paladins, Samford and UNCG put five players each on the league's all-conference first and second teams. Head Coach Chris Neal was named the league's coach of the year.
Davidson finished out its season 7-10-3 overall and 5-5-1 in SoCon play.
