DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Wildcat field hockey team (5-6, 3-0 NorPac) moved to 3-0 in NorPac action by earning a 4-0 shutout victory over instate-foe Appalachian State (2-9, 0-3 NorPac) at Belk Turf Field on Tuesday evening.

Tyler McFayden, Annie Evans, Finley Amato and Brooke Osborne each notched a goal in the win. Amato also had an assist for a team-high three points, leaving her one shy of tying Davidson's all-time points record. She currently has 102 in her career.

Amato registered a team-high nine shots, six of which came on goal, as the Wildcats outshot the Mountaineers 23-7 overall. Fellow senior Sarah Fisher made six stops on the night, combining with Carolyn Macek for the shutout.

Appalachian State goalkeeper Sarah Anderson made seven saves in the loss, and the Mountaineers took four penalty corners to Davidson's 10. Lindsay Amador led App. State with two shots, while five other Mountaineers recorded a scoring attempt as well.

McFayden opened the scoring for the Wildcats 23 minutes into the game, putting them up 1-0. Melissa Funsten sent a pass over to McFayden, who was able to lift the ball over Anderson for the score.

Osborne made it 2-0 early in the second half, snagging a rebound off an Amato shot and sending it in for her first of the season. Amato and Evans then combined for the third goal of the evening, as Evans took a feed from her fellow senior and beat the Appalachian State goalkeeper to send it in to the left corner as the 'Cats further cushioned their lead.

Amato finished off the scoring for the night, notching an unassisted score from straight in front of the cage for her eighth of the season. Her eighth goal of the season gave the 'Cats the 4-0 win.

The Wildcats will remain at Belk Turf Field to host Longwood on Friday evening in a 6 p.m. contest.
