About Waterville Golf Links
The earliest structured golf at the Waterville Golf Links dates back to 1889, when it became an addition to the Waterville Athletic Club. The course became a formalized part of life in the village by 1900, after the Athletic Club became one of the first clubs affiliated with the Golfing Union of Ireland. After lying inactive throughout the 1960s, Irish born American, John A. Mulcahy had a vision to build the most testing golf links in the world. In 1973, the newly constructed course and clubhouse reopened.
The new course layout creates a contrast to the more rugged and exposed original back nine, however, it still delivers the complexity and beauty of the links to the players. The testing of the course begins promptly with the first hole named “Last Easy”, and ends with the challenging and scenic “O'Grady's Beach”. Stretching over 7,300 yards, the course includes several tees on each hole to allow all standards of golfers to enjoy a game on the Links.
