DAVIDSON, N.C. — Sophia Aleksandravicius scored a game-high 23 points, and Laura Murray netted 21 to lead Davidson to a 75-66 Southern Conference women's basketball victory over Elon Wednesday night in Belk Arena.
Jasmine Calin added a career-high 16 points to go along with seven rebounds for Davidson (8-5, 4-0 SoCon). Aleksandravicius posted 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the year and Murray finished with seven.
Ali Ford led Elon (6-8, 2-3 SoCon) with 21 points, and Sam Coffer scored 17. Kelsey Evans collected a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Trailing by three points late in the first half, Davidson went on an 18-5 run to open a 41-31 lead with a minute left in the period. Aleksandravicius netted seven points during the stretch, and Murray nailed consecutive triples.
Aiesha Harper hit a turnaround jumper off the glass for Elon with a second remaining, and the 'Cats led 41-33 at the break. Davidson shot 51.5 percent from the floor marking the sixth time this year its shot at least 50 percent in the first half.
Leading 49-37 early in the second half, Davidson scored seven straight points to open a 56-37 cushion and take control of the game.
Elon made a run to get the lead down to 12 points late in the contest as Coffer hit two free throws, Ford made a layup and Evans hit a jumper. But Calin responded with a driving layup, and Aleksandravicius got a putback to hold off the Phoenix.
An Evans' 3-pointer made the score 75-66 with under a minute to go, but Elon elected not to foul. Davidson used up the entire shot clock on its possession, and Harris missed a 3-pointer on the other end.
The Wildcats are back in action Saturday as they travel to Furman for a SoCon contest. The teams are tied for first in the SoCon standings with 4-0 records, and tipoff is set for noon.
