DAVIDSON, N.C. — Beginning a three-game homestand, the Davidson women's basketball squad will welcome reigning league tournament champion Samford on Saturday to John M. Belk Arena in a Southern Conference tilt.
Davidson has been on a roll, winning nine of its last 11 games, with five of those wins coming at home.
The Opening Tip
Davidson (11-6, 7-1 SoCon) looks to stay perfect at home and push its home win streak overall to nine straight by hosting the Samford Bulldogs (10-7, 5-3 SoCon) on Saturday, Jan. 21, at 2 p.m.
The 'Cats are in second place in the league standings and have gone 4-0 vs. SoCon-foes at home. Samford is currently tied for fourth place in the standings.
The All-Time Series/Last Meeting ...
... is six games old, with Samford holding a 4-2 lead. The 'Cats split their two-game series last year vs. the Bulldogs. They are 2-1 at home, including last year's 71-62 win at Belk Arena.
Last year at home vs. Samford, Davidson lit up the nets to the tune of 70.8 percent in the second half in scoring 48 points and taking home the nine-point win.
Game Notes...
SoCon Double-Figure Streak Reaches 13 for Murray
Sophomore Laura Murray kept her streak of scoring in double figures during the regular season vs. Southern Conference foes intact when she chipped in 10 points at Appalachian State, Jan. 15.
The shooting guard started the streak last year in Chattanooga and closed the year with five straight double-digit scoring games, including a 23-point effort vs. Georgia Southern. This year has seen her hit the 20-mark twice vs. Elon and Furman.
Double-Figure Streak Reaches 10 For Aleksandravicius
Sophia Aleksandravicius saw her streak scoring 10 or more points reach 10 in a win at Appalachian State, Jan. 15. She had a huge game, tallying 17 points, a career-best 20 rebounds and blocking seven shots for the second game in a row.
The streak started in December vs. Western Carolina when she went off for 20 points and nine rebounds to lead Davidson to a SoCon-opening win. During the stretch, the junior has had five double-doubles, including the last three straight games, and hit the 20-point mark twice.
As a sophomore, Aleksandravicius had a 13-game stretch of scoring in double figures with four games of 20-plus points.
7-0 Home Start
Davidson ran its home win streak to start the season to seven straight after scoring another home win, Jan. 13. The 'Cats rolled to a 58-45 triumph over visiting Western Carolina.
