DAVIDSON, N.C. - Davidson quarterback Jonathan Carkhuff has been named the Pioneer Football League Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Wildcats' 35-7 win over Johnson C. Smith last Saturday.
Wide receiver Lanny Funsten was named the College Football Performance Award FCS National Performer of the Week at his position, while punter Brenton Goodman earned honorable mention accolades at his position.
Carkhuff threw for 427 yards, four away from the school record, and five touchdowns. The sophomore connected with Funsten on a school-record 99-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. Carkhuff has completed 96 passes for 1,148 yards this season and leads NCAA FCS football in both categories.
Funsten finished the day with seven receptions for 195 yards and two touchdowns, and the junior ranks in the top-10 in the FCS in both receptions and receiving yards. His receiving yard total from Saturday was the most in a game for a Wildcat since Alvin Atkinson had 220 against Furman in 1979.
Goodman punted four times for 195 yards, averaging 48.8 yards a kick against the Golden Bulls. The senior placed two inside the 20-yard line.
Davidson returns to action Saturday on the West Coast as the 'Cats open the PFL portion of their schedule with a 3 p.m. (PST) contest at San Diego.
