Men’s Cross Country Ranked Ninth in the Southeast by the USTFCCCA

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Davidson men's cross country team broke into the Top 10 of the U. S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Southeast Region Rankings for the first time in program history Monday, earning a ninth-place ranking.
Davidson leads two other Southern Conference teams, UNCG (13th) and Appalachian State (14th) and Wake Forest (11th), one of the five Atlantic Coast Conference teams that populate the list. The Wildcats were picked to place in a tie for third in the SoCon with Chattanooga, ranked fifth in the South Region, behind Appalachian State and UNCG in the preseason coaches poll.
NC State leads the region, and is followed by Virginia, Eastern Kentucky, North Carolina and Louisville, respectively in the Top Five. Davidson also trails Virginia Tech (sixth), William and Mary (seventh) and Duke (eighth).
The Wildcats are coming off a strong performance at the Clemson Invitational. Senior Ryan Hopkins completed the 8K course in an all-time Wildcat record time of 24:06.54, to place second. Davidson placed third in the highly competitive field that included several ACC teams. No. 9 Florida State won and was followed by Virginia Tech. The 'Cats were third and were followed by Georgia Tech, ranked 11th in the South Region, Clemson, Wake Forest and Southern Conference foe Furman (143).
The Wildcats will next compete Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Louisville Cross Country Classic.
