Men’s Cross Country Picked Third in SoCon

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Davidson men's cross country team was picked third in the 2011 Southern Conference Men's Cross Country Preseason Poll by the league's coaches, the conference office announced Wednesday.
The Appalachian State men's cross country team was selected as the 2011 preseason favorite. The Mountaineer men's team, winners of six straight SoCon championship titles, received ten first-place votes to give them a total of 100 points.
UNCG was picked second with 89 points. The Spartans, who received one first-place vote, were the 2010 conference runner-up. Davidson and Chattanooga tied in third place in the preseason balloting with 78 points.
The Wildcats return both of their 2010 All-SoCon runners, senior Ryan Hopkins and junior Demetrios Pagonis. The duo led Davidson to a fourth place finish at the SoCon Championships last season. Head coach Gary Andrew enters his 26th season at the helm.
The 2011 SoCon Championship will be held in Charleston, S.C., on October 29.
