Wildcat Women’s Lacrosse Named to IWLCA Academic List

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson women's lacrosse team was honored as one of 56 Division I women's lacrosse programs to earn 2011 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic honors as announced by the association today.
To qualify for recognition, these schools achieved a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or above for the 2010-2011 academic year. Davidson was also one of five National Lacrosse Conference teams to earn a spot on the list, joining Jacksonville, Liberty, Longwood and Detroit Mercy.
“I'm very proud of the team for all of their hard work and dedication to their academics,” said head coach Kim Wayne. “Obtaining a team GPA of above a 3.0 is not an easy task at Davidson, but it's something that each and every one of my athletes work hard to achieve.”
Leading the way academically for the 'Cats was Abigail Doelger (West Hartford, Conn.), who was named to the NLC All-Academic Team.
The Wildcats finished the 2011 year 6-12 after going 1-1 at the NLC Tournament, which was hosted by Davidson. The 'Cats picked up an 11-6 win vs. Liberty to open the tournament, but fell to Jacksonville, 19-7, in the semifinals.
They return 16 letterwinners, including eight starters. Returning is leading scorer Ann Fucigna (Darien, Conn.) along with Alanna Parker (Spring Valley, Calif.) and Erin McGuire (Bishopville, Md.), all of whom were named either NLC First or Second Team. Fucigna was one of the top freshman in 2011 in the NLC, and finished the year on a torrid scoring pace. The first-year Wildcat led the team with 49 goals and 60 points. Fucigna's 49 goals tied the single-season record set last year by Jen Crawford, while her 60 points ranked third-most in a single-season.
