DAVIDSON, N.C. - Preseason honors are rolling in for the Davidson football team as the 2011 campaign kicks off in just over a month. Linebacker John Behm, receiver Lanny Funsten, defensive back Peter Kidwell and defensive lineman Morgan Popham were named first-team Preseason All-Pioneer League by Phil Steele's College Football Preview Magazine today.
Behm and Funsten have also been named to the College Football Performance Awards FCS Watch List for their respective positions. All four players earned second-team All-PFL honors from the league for their performances in 2010.
Behm, a senior, ranked second on the team in tackles with 69 and posted 11.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, an interception, four pass breakups and two fumble recoveries. He ranked 15th in the league in tackles and tied for ninth in tackles for loss.
Funsten finished the campaign with 47 receptions for 685 yards and six touchdowns. The junior topped the 100-yard mark in three of the last five games, and his 175 yards at Morehead State Oct. 16, are the 11th-highest single-game total in school history.
Kidwell, a senior defensive back who also earned All-PFL Honorable Mention in 2009, recorded 68 tackles, six tackles for loss, two interceptions, five pass breakups and a blocked kick. He was fourth in the league in tackles by a defensive back.
