Field Hockey to Welcome Five Newcomers for Fall Season

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson field hockey head coach Ginny Turner announced Monday the five incoming freshmen who will look to aid the Wildcats' NorPac East title defense in the upcoming fall season.
The Class of 2015 includes one in-state product, West Forsyth's Kaity Anstrom (Winston-Salem, N.C.), while two, Sarah French (Dayton, Ohio) and Kristy Helscel (Upper Arlington, Ohio), hail from Ohio. Julia Guthrie and Madeline Herder will arrive at Davidson from North Huntingdon, Pa. and Los Gatos, Calif., respectively.
“We are very excited to welcome these five, wonderful student-athletes to our team,” said Turner, the reigning NorPac Coach of the Year. “They are all exceptional students who will thrive in the Davidson academic environment, and they will help us build on the success we achieved this past fall. In keeping with our core beliefs, Kaity, Madeline, Kristy, Julia and Sara are all committed, team-oriented and motivated players, and they have the heart needed to reach our goals. With a strong foundation of returning players in place, these athletes are exactly who we need to excel beyond our finish last season.”
The Wildcats claimed their first outright NorPac East division title and advanced to the NorPac semifinals in 2010. Led by NorPac East Player of the Year Finley Amato, the 'Cats scored a team-record 60 goals and finished with 14 wins overall, their most in 18 years.
Davidson will return 18 letterwinners, including nine starters.

Earned first-team all-conference honors following senior season for Oakwood H.S. … was also an all-state nominee and the team's MVP … received Coach's Award and all-conference honorable mention honors following junior season … three-year letterwinner in field hockey … six-year USAFH Futures participant and two-time Festival participant … competed in Disney Showcase from 2009-11 and in the 2010 and 2011 National Indoor Tournament … also a four-year letterwinner in track, serving as team captain … Academic All-Ohio … inducted into National Honor Society and National Spanish Honors Society … AP Scholar … senior class secretary … volunteered as a community center field hockey coach, shelter volunteer and hospice volunteer.
